Aaniin! Gida'igaa'ikoons ndizhinikaaz. Alderville First Nation ndoonjibaa. My name is Showna Smoke and I am pleased to introduce myself as the new General Manager of Curve Lake First Nation. I am a member to Alderville First Nation where I reside with my five children. My Great-Great-Grandparents, Zach Smoke-ba and Alice Jacobs-ba, lived in Curve Lake First Nation. I have had the opportunity to meet some of my relatives within the community and look forward to meeting more.

Before accepting this position, I held the Policy and Planning Officer and Acting Executive Assistant positions for Curve Lake First Nation. These roles helped me to gain an understanding of the organization and community, which will assist me in my new role as General Manager. My educational experience includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Indigenous Studies at Trent University and a Masters of Arts Degree in Integrate Studies at Athabasca University, focusing on areas such as policy review and analysis; planning and action for community change; community development; community based research; and social change. I am also currently working towards achieving designation as a Certified Aboriginal Professional Administrator through AFOA Canada. I am excite to continue using my educational and employment experience to contribute to your community in a positive and meaningful way.

My role as General Manager is to contribute to the overall success of Curve Lake First Nation by providing the management administration and delivery of programs and services to ensure that the needs of the membership are met in a reasonable, effective and efficient manager; and that all decisions and actions meet the relevant legislation, policies and procedures. I am excited to continue working with leadership, staff and community to achieve the goals of the organization.

If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions or would just like to introduce yourself, please feel welcome to drop by the Government Services Building or contact me at 705-657-8045 ext. 206 or ShownaS@curvelake.ca
